FIFA Confirms Maracanã for 2027 Women's World Cup Opening & Final

ZURICH, Switzerland - The cathedral of Brazilian football has been selected for the ultimate stage. FIFA has officially announced that the iconic Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro will host both the Opening Ceremony/Match and the Final Match for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup™. By securing both bookend matches, the Maracanã adds another historic chapter to its legacy, having previously hosted the men's 1950 and 2014 FIFA World Cup Finals.

32 National Teams across 10 host cities. Alongside Rio de Janeiro, nine other world-class World Cup arenas across Brazil will host matches throughout the 32-day tournament. The announcement also establishes a clear, high-profile foundation for the first-ever Women's World Cup staged in South America. With all 64 matches scheduled across eight Brazilian host cities including São Paulo, Brasília, and Belo Horizonte; the decision guarantees that the tournament will kick off and conclude in one of the most celebrated cathedrals in sports history.
